Apple Home Automation is Almost Here

Aug 01, 2014

Are you a smart home owner who has wished for months, years, or however long your home has been automated and you have been using an iPhone or iPad that it were easier to control your appliances and devices from your Apple phone? While Apple has not yet announced a release date for its latest mobile operating system, iOS 8, the company has made it clear that the software will be available this fall. Learn about the Apple Control4 app and some of the other exciting features that will enable loyal Apple users to finally call their automated homes Apple smart homes below.

Codename Okemo: What We Know

Apple first announced iOS 8 on June 2 at the Apple Worldwide Developer's Conference, unveiling software highlights such as the new operating system's compatibility with Control4 smart home technology. Something that many Apple users have been waiting for for a long time, the news that Apple smart home automation is almost here was well-received. As far as nuts and bolts are concerned, Apple iOS 8 will not look much different from Apple iOS 7. The developers have been focusing more on honing new features and adding a few exciting ones than on a complete overhaul. In addition to iOS 8 smart home technology, Apple users switching to iOS 8 should find turning their mobile devices into wireless hotspots far easier than it is. They will also be able to enjoy group messages with voice and video. Apple announced that iOS 8 will work on nearly as many devices as iOS 7, and commentators speculate that the release date will fall in mid-September.

HomeKit Apple Home Automation

The component of iOS 8 that will make Apple home automation easy for the first time is the HomeKit framework. With HomeKit iPhone Control 4 technology, adjusting thermostats, locking doors and windows, and checking your home's security monitoring cameras should be easier than it has ever been.

Apple Smart Home Voice Control

One of the most exciting features about HomeKit is that you can direct Siri to turn devices and appliances on and off for you. HomeKit's programmable nature will enable Apple smart home owners to establish "work" and "sleep" modes, whereby your air conditioning, lighting, and home locking mechanisms will all do exactly what you want them to do when you tell Siri that you are headed to work, have returned home, or are returning to bed. This revolutionary feature makes iPhone home automation something to look forward to, so much so that the long wait leading up to it may soon be forgotten.
