Spotlight on Smart Locks

Jan 12, 2015

Do you stash a spare key to your front door under a doormat, in a front landscape planter, or elsewhere on your property? Does it make you nervous? If you would like to choose whom you grant access to enter your home and for how long, the solution you’ve been waiting for is here. And Integrated IO® can help you incorporate it into the design infrastructure of your smart home.

Locks such as the August Smart Lock and the UniKey Kevo Smart Lock, relatively recent introductions to the world of smart home gadgets, have revolutionized home access control. With the help of a smart lock system, you can give access to a smart lock-equipped door to anyone you wish, for however long you wish.

Abandon your concerns about trespassers finding the spare key you keep hidden for the kids, landscapers, pool cleaner, and anyone else who routinely needs access to your home or yard when you are not around. Oh, and that almost unbelievable but all-too-common problem of lost keys? You can say goodbye to that as well. Smart locks lend more peace of mind than keypads because only individuals who have been granted access via their phones have the capability to enter. In other words, you do not have a code that could potentially be passed around or hacked.

Rest assured that no one will be able to duplicate the physical key to your smart lock without permission. Nor can they grant others electronic access. If you need to grant access just once or during a specific recurring time, you can program the lock to limit access you give to others accordingly.

Both August and Unikey Kevo’s smartphone enabled locks are viable options for homeowners looking to adopt this technology. The August smartphone enabled lock uses Bluetooth technology so you don’t have to be connected to WiFi or use data in order to unlock your door. It is compatible with a range of smartphones, and access from a lost phone can easily be cut off when you login to the app from another device. The UniKey lock from Kevo may be slightly more user-friendly, but it is currently only available for those using Apple devices. Its touch-sensor deadbolt also makes it easy to unlock your door, even when your hands are full. Both products are compatible with Nest’s popular smart home thermostats.

Are you a Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, or Phoenix homeowner who is thinking right now that you could benefit from having a smart lock or two installed in your home?
