Why Structured Cabling Matters

Dec 09, 2015

Tangled and frayed wires are a dime a dozen in work spaces that house more than a computer or two. They shouldn’t be. Cables should run together seamlessly, be bundled together in a secure manner, and have the proper support they need. They should also match the ports they run to or from. Cables that don’t meet these criteria are unsafe and ineffective. You may not notice any problems in the short-term, but they will come for you eventually.

Unsupported cables can succumb to wear and tear and are more likely than supported cables to be yanked or stretched until they meet their end. Cables that are bundled too loosely will tangle. Cables that are bundled too tightly or with the wrong securing equipment (think zip ties) are certain to fray. Mismatched cables are a pain to deal with. The list of problems goes on and on.

However you decide to go about wiring or rewiring your business, be sure to take structured cabling seriously. Don’t try to manage it yourself or hire someone offering too-good-to-be-true rates. Chances are high that this route will result in lost productivity and greater expense in the long run. Hire a professional who knows what they’re doing. Hire a company like Integrated IO®, a company that operates to better serve you and help you get the most from the technology you use on a daily basis.
